“When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”

- Leonardo da Vinci

And so the Great Spirit calleth upon the Mighty PIMU Tribe to come bare witness to the miracle of flight taken to the ultimate extreme.  Matthew, Justin, Christine and I invite you, your family and friends to join us for the MCAS Miramar Air Show 2008 this Sunday, October 5.

What to Expect

·      Attached is a link to the agenda for Sunday.  There will be a morning and afternoon show that day (no evening show):  http://www.miramarairshow.com/schedule.html

·      Expect to see things you will never forget.  Let me describe a few of my favorite items from Sunday’s agenda:

o     The schedule does not have times so you need to keep an eye on what events have just taken place to anticipate what is coming next.

o     In the Morning:

§      This is an excellent time to walk the tarmac where you climb into planes, tanks, trucks…  Also, try not to miss:

§      Shockley’s “ShockWave” Jet Truck – Watch a Peterbuilt truck equipped with 3 jet engines race and beat an airplane (the kids LOVE this.)

§      MV-22 Osprey – these have only been in service a few years and are very unique looking with their giant propellers and transition from vertical to horizontal flight.

o     In the Afternoon

§      There isn’t much you will want to miss but make sure you are there for:

·      Marine Air-Ground Task Force Assault Demo – Watch as your military stages an assault on your position.  Your face will feel sunburned from the heat as aircraft soften your position with bombing runs, helicopters, artillery and ground troops will all converge on your position.  You will feel very glad you live here instead of Iraq.

·      The F18, F16 and Heritage demonstrations are awesome – I think they are better than the Blue Angles’ show.

·      The F22 show is new.  This is the newest and most advance fighter aircraft in the world.  It has stealth capabilities, is the first fighter to be able to cruise at supersonic speeds and is so advanced we won’t event sell them to our allies like Great Britain.  I can’t wait to see this for the first time.

·      AV-8B Harrier Vertical Take-off and Landing Demo – For many people this is the most memorable demonstration.  There is something just “wrong” about watching a fighter jet hover in front of you, slide sideways or backwards and zoom off again.  In a few years this will be replaced by the JSF and I can’t wait.

·      The Blue Angles are a classic show and certainly not to be missed.

Getting Together

·      Unlike many PIMU events, people may arrive at different times and want to do different things throughout the day.

·      We will have two meeting places

o     After the MV-22 Osprey demonstration we will have everyone meet at the M1-A1 Abram Tanks for a Tribe Picture.  This should be between 11:00 and 12:00.

o     As people arrive, we will stake out a place in the grandstands to use as our base and you can always return to this location to find everyone.

·      Please reply to this Email so that I know who is coming.  I will send out a second Email later this week with who is attending and their cell numbers.

·      Our family will be in the strip mall parking lot at the corner of Brookhurst and Atlanta by the new Trader Joe’s at 8:15 AM.  If you would like to caravan with us, just let me know and we will look for you there.  Leaving at 8:15, I expect we will arrive on the tarmac at around 10:30.

·      Half a million people will attend this air show.  Expect some traffic.

How to Participate

·      Buy Grandstand seat tickets for Sunday.  They cost $8.50/adult and $5.25/child.  These discounted prices increase on Friday.  Print your tickets and use them for entering the grandstands.

·      Click on the yellow “click-n-print tickets” image at this link to buy your tickets:  http://www.miramarairshow.com/tickets.html

·      Let me know you are coming so we can facilitate meeting each other.

What to Bring

·      You may want to bring food.  We will bring a backpack with lunch and drinks for our family.  They also sell food there and we will supplement what we bring with some treats.

·      Ear plugs to protect your ears.

·      A camera

We hope to see you there.

Noonway,

Bryan
